10 year anniversary garden

Hi everyone! I’m finally trying to make my garden happen after 10 years (in June) of losing my dad. We gardened together so when I lost him at 23 I tried a few times to do it myself and couldn’t bear the grief.
Where do I go from this mess? I’m currently weeding on my hands and knees. What to do with this old cardboard? Please help me with the next steps. I’m determined to even get just one veggie in the ground this weekend. I’m sure the soil needs some help too. I really appreciate all your knowledge

Friend, where your dad went we will all go sooner or later. Remove everything thats not wanted and get a shovel and turn the soil. Then plant a few plants to get a start. Keep is simple and take your time. Keep us posted.
