Can anyone advise about what is going on with this tomato? It is a new one for me called Chocolate Miracle, similar to Cherokee Purple in shape/color. I have never had much luck with CP. The fruits always seem to get rot in the crevices. Maybe that is what is going on here? Insects? Another fruit was too far gone and had to be tossed out. I brought this one in hoping to ripen it indoors. We have had more rain than normal, too.

More clues: I have found black limp areas on the foliage, so I'm guessing fungus maybe?

I have had the same experience with Cherokee Purple. Even though I like the tomato I have given up on it because of the tendency to rot in those cracks in our rainy weather.

Treat it for nutrient deficiency first. Very common to see nutrient deficiency do that. Also I suspect a lot of fertilizers are messed up this year because fertilizer is made from natural gas now... (WTFreak right?) and that was shut down by the Hormuz strait. That means its very possible store fertilizers this year and next might be ... 'off' somehow.

Also look at your watering interval and adjust accordingly.

What nutrients or fertilizer would you recommend? I have been using Espoma Organic Liquid Tomato Plant Food,1-3-1 plus 1 calcium.

Research Korean Natural Farming techniques. They teach you how to make 2 very easy and quick to make fertilizers. 1 of them is a lactic acid bacyllus solution using cheese making techniques and milk (LAB solution). The other you can make a fermented plant juice fertilizer (FPJ or FFJ). Both use brown sugar to make.

I think the fertilizer problems (along with everything else) will just keep escalating. And people who are dependent on the store are more vulnerable. It feels good to learn to make fertilizer.

I don't have anything against commercial fertilizer because you need those to transition to your own techniques because it takes time. Also if they were to try to fix the entire agriculture system and what was wrong with it it would take such a huge effort that they'd need gap measures like chemical fertilizers because too many people don't know how to do things healthy anyway.

So you could use a normal chemical fertilizer while learning how to make and use a KNF LAB and FPJ solution.
