Planting in container afer determinates are done?

I have two determinate varieties that are now done with fruiting. I would like to remove those plants and plant something else, like cucumbers or zucchini. Would that work? I'm in zone 8 so it may be too late, as we are about to go into July (read HOT). Thanks.

Cucumbers would work...but too hot for zucchini. Wait on that until fall.
