Zoysia Lawn - Brown Lawn every spring

My front lawn is Zoysia and it's brown every spring. It eventually turns green later in the season, but will be light brown/tan for another 3-4 weeks or so. Any ideas what's going on?

It goes dormant in winter and it's supposed to look like that

Yep, that is a normal response for Zoysia...it goes dormant as kind of a protective response.

OK, another question - I need some plugs for another part of the yard. Is it OK to use the Zoysia while it's brown, or should I wait until it's Green?

Its fine to use brown
