If the weather goes on as it is I am beginning to wonder what I can and should grow, see my post in Logan's weather thread, Last summer was hot, but this July was the driest July and second hottest month ever since records began in SE England.

Have you tried scarlet runner, they are very ornamental to me
What do the pole beans do for you?

I only tried pole beans once. Scarlet Runner and Sunset Runner are the two that I tried, they grew very very slow and very skimpy and never produced a single pod.
The Hyacinth Bean I'm confused cause my first research said it was toxic and now some articles say it is ok to eat

Pretty sure hyacinth bean is one of those you're supposed to cook. I only tried it one time ages ago but it was amazing

I'm doing a scarlet runner (painted lady) this year and so far very few pods as well but they grow fine and look beautiful

Yes, a bit like kidney beans, they contain a couple of things. One is poisonous, a cyanate and the other does nasty things to the gut, but they are both broken down by soaking and cooking, just make sure they reach boiling for a bit, no slow cookers.

Not chancy at all, just hit boiling and stay there for a few minutes and all the nasties are reduced to harmless.

... Any dry pea growers? Or lentils or peanuts?

Peanuts here...some years. This year tried three times with zero germination each time. Must have been bad seeds.

There you go @Martin Mikulcik . Peanuts are fun to grow...and tremendously effective at soil building.

My only problem with them is some years the seed does not germinate well... and I always purchase seed. Maybe I should save my own.
