Gardening forums has gardening members from all over the world. It would be really helpful to me and others if members would kindly put their country and area, for example USA, California, in their avatar boxes and not just the hardiness zone. It can be frustrating not knowing the climate and season of your area when certain plants and their issues are being discussed. I and others can then find information on the internet to help us if necessary.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this post and considering my request. :) (y)

Does help to know locations though :)

Although I hear you and am sure I've mentioned this before - but doing that doesn't work for everyone and particularly not me - especially as I live in one of those mountainous regions that has its own very unique micro-climate - in fact if I were to state the country or the supposed hardiness zones - it would result in me getting all the wrong information as my climate is hugely different from the rest of the country - fortunately though - as I don't ask question too often - it hasn't proved to be a problem for anyone.

Thanks for putting me right @zigs, I've altered my post. :)

I think every area has it's own climate @gata montes but it does help to have a guide line of where you are. There's a big difference between living and gardening in the polar areas and the equator. :)

I totally agree and if I thought it would help I would do it - but as it would only cause total confusion I prefer not to - especially as there are not that many places that only have two seasons - both of which are of the two extremes with nothing in between and as it took me some time to learn what can be grown in desert like conditions yet still survive when suddenly plunged into those somewhat similar to the polar icecap in less than 24 hours - its way better all round not to do it in my case and like I said - I rarely ever ask questions anyway - so it shouldn't really be a problem :)

I've included my area and country in my avatar box, simply because my advice for someone in Wisconsin or Lincolnshire might be less than helpful. I don't know how many times I've given a lengthy explanation to someone, and then find out they are in Alaska and nothing I've written has any application to their gardening.
I certainly appreciate those who can and do include area/zone information in their avatar, but I'm also willing to bore the heck out of folks with Texas advice for Vancouver!

:)I like seeing people's locations just because I find it interesting and also helps me understand their lingo. Zones, well, if my area suddrnly becamd morr moderate, I would simply pick the number I felt applied to my locale.

just my two nickels, ....we don't have pennies anymore

I agree Lori. It is just plain interesting to know where our fellow forum buddies are living on this world. I think that is one of the things that makes it so fascinating.

By the way, does anyone remember when everyone thought my name was Loriz because I chose the handle CanadianLoriz6a because I was trying to identify my zone. Then of course, I entered the info to the right slot!

cheers, Loriz, er Lori.....:D

I also agree! I joined a more active US-specific gardening forum last year but this one just has a better vibe and this is where I visit daily, I think because there are members from all over.
I am where my profile says: Mid-Michigan. Just north of Murderville aka Flint Mich. Upper Midwest, hot damp summers (major storm passing over right now and my little street is flooded; temps at or near 90 predicted for the next few days) and bone-chilling, long cold winters.

When I started perusing different garden sites, and got hooked enough to jump in with both feet, I thought long and hard for a good screen name. A few sites don't give you the option of putting this important info up for all to see. so as my screen name implies, I am geographically dead center on Long Island. Pretty sure if you googled it, it would tell you what town I actually live in.

I'll not change mine until I settle for good in a country, that might happen next year, so for now, nope. It's ok because I'm rarely making questions ;) I'm not even gardening that much over here anyway.

If you change your mind and decide to add your current country's flag, we can all send you good wishes for a smooth move each time you change it!!!

Aww, Lori, that sounds like the sweetest thing ever  I'm a bit OCD with this kind of things, but I might really try it (y) I just wanted to wait until I finally settled somewhere for good, but who knows, I might do it one week earlier ;)
