It has been a very difficult year with many of my critter friendly perennials due to the lack of rain. I do have an irrigation system, but it's simply not the same as real rain. To date I have seen only one monarch in my yard, as opposed to many I had at this time last year.

We've been in a drought here (finally saw some rain yesterday), but that hasn't affected any of my natives. I don't water them, either. Prairie plants are drought-tolerant, so it would take quite a bit for them to be affected by it.

I had seen zero Monarchs in the garden until about 6 days ago, now they've been in the garden every day. Not much different from last year. They typically don't show up very much until around the end of July. I should see them fairly frequently now through September, but you never know what to expect with their population swings.

As with you Jb, everything I plant is native to my area, but with the high humidity, and dew points all the plants are suffering. When we do get a day or two with lower humidity levels the winds pick up further sucking much needed moisture from the plants. All my other plantings in semi, and full shade seem to be doing pretty good tho.

Keep the pictures coming. I really do enjoy your accomplishments.

I haven't seen any Monarchs in days now, after three weeks of continuous Monarch activity. Coincidentally, my Monarch magnet Meadow Blazing Star has also finished blooming.

However, I'm seeing Swallowtail butterflies constantly.

I also saw this Red-spotted Purple Butterfly today.

Careful there JB, we were saying 2 days ago how we're still getting peas in November, now we've got a freezing Artic blast sweeping over the country

Don't worry, I already know it's coming. We'll be seeing temps as cold as 29°F in a few nights, yet still expecting average temps to be above normal for a couple more weeks.
