I have a Ficus Benjamina thats been slowly dying. I'm new to gardening and not sure what to do.

Over the last 3 months it has been shedding all of its leaves, about 1 month all the leaves were gone. I assumed it was dormant as i know the tree stresses easily.

However the tree branches have slowly started dying and today I noticed it has spread half way down the tree trunk.

On the top half of the trunk the wood is squidgy and the bark comes off easily the bottom half is still solid and live. Pics attached

I have continued to water it every 2 weeks when the top soil is dry. I have also tried fertiliser once a month since March.

I love this tree is there anyway to save it or is it too late?

Am guessing from the photos that it is too late. Even the area where you scraped the bark shows the wrong color of green for promoting growth. I wonder what happened? These trees do not have a dormant cycle where they loose all their leaves. They are evergreen in habit and will shed some leaves if stressed. Looks like it was a lovely tree.

I've never heard of a dormant Ficus Benjamina and I had them for thirty years. They tend to shed leaves when they have been disturbed - moved to a different position or re-potted. They prefer to be starved both of water and food, I never fed mine and watered once every two to three months. They don't like draughts and prefer to be near a window that provides sun for at least part of the day.

Sorry, I suspect yours is at the end of it's life and doubt very much that you can revive it. Feeding a sick plant is not a good idea as it tends to stress it further.

@garden00b, do you have a garden outside? You may do better with learning gardening outside (especially now the sun is shining)
I think your Ficus is well dead. I can be a bit rubbish at indoor stuff too
