Unknown plant

Does anyone know what kind of plant this is? It has black and white specks on the leaves and I would like to know what that means and the best way to care for it. The tag said Bonsai when I purchased it, however, someone in a bonsai forum told me it is not a Bonsai plant. So now I also do not know what kind of plant I'm working with here! Help please!

Bonsai is a way of trimming plant roots to stunt their growth, therefore definitely not a Bonsai. Your plant looks like a Hawaiian Umbrella plant.(I don't know it's proper name).

Most likely this is a Schefflera.
But if the torn leaf has a smell (a bit like geranium), then it's Heptapleurum.
