Can anyone tell me what tree this is... i looked for a tree recognition app but there are so many and not sure what ones would be any good as they all mentioned in use charges ....

Thanks ONEEYE. It seems to be an exact match from all the pics and descriptions although there appears to be no hairyness on the underside of the leaves. Nice to finally know - for the record if I were to have my time again I would have planted several of them in the larger area further down garden. Whilst slow growing its a lovely tree and very low maintenance. regards les
