Hi everyone! I want to start some seeds soon for my hydroponic vegetable plans, and just got a $80 petco gift card from a friend. Obviously petco does not sell traditional seed warming mats, but they do sell terrarium heaters...can I use one for my seeds? The seeds will be started in coir pellets in a half inch layer of weak hydroponic solution. Thanks :)

The surface temperature on reptile mats reach about 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit and that can be a little warm for germinating seeds. You may have to buffer the heat some way to bring the temps down to around 70 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

I germ my seeds on top of my hot water heater in the hot water closet. The temps stay around 70 degrees in there and my seeds will sprout in about 4 to 10 days. I check them everyday and keep a watch on the temps and for new sprouts.
