Went over where we use to live. Amish Area things change but like my wife said people our age has died or got older.

Went on Government Land. Told my wife we could get permits and cut all our Firewood. Plus get on the list and pick up Road Kill Deer. Their pretty good if their not all tore up or stinking.

When I was able to cut Firewood winter comes I had plenty of Firewood. Now I'm waiting for our son to cut it and it is either wet or green.

Road kill permits are an awesome way to fill the freezer for people who don't hunt.. especially fall and winter. And the roadside trees cut will heat the house all winter. Well done @big rockpile

Sounds like you’ve got some good memories and a solid system figured out back then. The permits for firewood and even roadkill deer can really stretch things, especially in these times. I get what you mean about relying on others though — green or wet wood just doesn’t do the job. Maybe worth seasoning a small pile ahead for next winter so you don’t have to depend fully on your son’s schedule. Also, if you’re thinking of a quick trip somewhere to scout or gather supplies, you might want to contact allegiant air for affordable flights.

as I drive about, I can see just from the roadways, so many down trees for easy taking anyone with a truck. For the first, about 20 years of living in our home my husband and a friend would go during the summer and get wood for our wood stove. We have a gas splitter, so easy to split and pile. My job during the winter was to get wheel barrel full of the split wood and line it up on the steps of the bilcor basement entrance. and to get the wood stove going, which was in the basement. I usually would check the forecasted weather to ensure gathering would be done before a storm. Even in the dead of winter our house would be 78 degrees, the floors and walls would be warm, walls little less warm. But over time the soot would make its way upstairs to the walls, and ceilings. Anyway, last 10 years we stopped, got the first floor painted. Nice and clean looking now. but yep pay more to heat the house. it is what it is.

We do need to sell the gas splitter. Have to put it on facebook market place.

Son is worthless on counting on him. I bought a load. He comes over oh I'll cut wood for you.

He laughed at me cutting any time I could but I didn't cut wood in snow. Winter would see me with a Wood Shed full.

He couldn't understand why I cut around trees to kill them and leave them standing. Hey come Fall they would be dry and Seasoned.

I was thinking I'm probably last generation that can see game before I actually see it. Yesterday told my wife there was a Squirrel bottom of the hill. 10 minutes later it was by the house.

Go out hunting if I see a Rabbit I'm the one shooting because nobody could see it.

I see a hair an eye, tail flicker. Just have to know what to look for and not let them see you.

Back when I was a kid I was smoking, setting on the ground. Let Deer walk by me. Shoot them with Recurve Bow.

Oh I no longer have a pickup or chainsaw. They won't let me drive or cut wood.

My early 20:s dated a guy that went deer hunting with a bow. he'd come back with a deer every season.

anyway, seasoned wood, versus fresh. Kept them separate as we 'd get new every summer. Mixed season in with fresh sometime. burns hotter yep with seasoned, better for the chimney. It was a good wood stove. kinda ugly, but worded well. open big door in the front with the oxygen dials. . I could load it up on the hot ambers before bed or going to work, turn down the oxygen, and in 9 hours come back to a good bed of hot ambers ready to just put wood on them.

My wife builds a Indian fire wondering why I'm cold at the other end of the house.

Fine I'm burning Propane.

I think gas company is full of it having us put more Regulators in because we use so much.

Ah there is two more Propane Heaters and I heat the Greenhouse with Propane.

The missus asks me "Why are you cutting wood in mid Summer?". Well, it's a much nicer time to be working outside, and cut wood will be really dry by the time we want to use it, the moisture has to migrate further in uncut wood, it mainly escapes through the ends.

Well first they didn't know if I could run a Chainsaw with one arm. They had to look twice when I showed them I could.

Now Medication has me so messed up isn't no way.

I can still shoot a .22 and make head shots on Squirrels.

One of my job descriptions duties in my retired job was to evaluate all the medication a client was on and to work with the doctor to decrease or change it to a lesser amount. I would start with listing them and looking at all the side effects of them, if more than two had the same side effects then we work to replace it with another.
Also the length of time one is on a certain medication has to be looked at.

On a personal note, some medications do have an herb that will do the same job a man made one does. Its easy to find that these days on google.

Doctors are not God, they are the plumber of the body.

I've tried working with a Holistic Herblist and my Doctors. Doctors have me on Hydrocodone, my Herblist has me on Marijuana.

With the Herblist I can't have anything from a Can. No Bleached Flour. No Dairy or Dairy products. No Sugar. No White Rice or Oatmeal. No Store bought Meat. No prepared Meals. No Caffeine and no Alcohol.
