I'd like to bring this one back. I don't have access to the PotM forum just yet (I'm working on that) so, for now, I've created a thread here:

Once I gain access to the appropriate forum I'll get the thread moved.

Welcome to the forum @Mike121. :)

It's good to see the photo competitions re-instated but when you've got your feet a bit further under the table would you consider changing the voting system please.

At the moment members have the opportunity to change their vote at any time and this can lead to bias. Votes can be changed to favour or disfavour a particular member or photo as the competition progresses.

I'd imagine, especially for now, we'll try to keep things as close as possible to how they've been done. However, any suggestions for change are always welcome and will be considered. I think this one is a good idea so, yeah, in future months we'll consider doing that.

This was one of my favorite parts of the forum! I really hope it comes back @Mike121 @Meadowlark @Chuck and all the other powers that be who's user names I can't currently remember off hand.

It adds some excitement beyond just the regular posts.. even for those who don't post a pic for POTM but enjoy being involved by voting.

Honestly, I don't know what is involved in this...or what permissions @Mike121 asked for...but I will ask @Mike121 about it.

I'm also wondering if there would be sufficient interest remaining on this Forum since the PORN attacks.

How about it? Anyone else interested in a revived Photo of the Month contest? If so, please make your interests known.

@Chuck your thoughts?

What does the recent junk attacks have to do with it? I ask that sincerely. I seen it happen prior to these recent "attacks".. the biggest difference is the previous mod was on here like a robotic sleepless machine so it was deleted rather quickly. that problem has already been solved with you and chuck joining Mike. Stuff like that and other spam is a part of every forum, even the most vigilant forms of social media have to deal with it.

This forum has so much potential to be a fun place for gardeners to gather, regardless if they are growing a year round food crop or just a houseplant.. this is a peaceful friendly forum that is a nice break to come and relax. IMHO members and staff need to relax and enjoy this forum for what it is, not let creeps that spam and post nasty things take away what you enjoy. Us members and future members who respect this forum need to stand by it, the ones who don't and try to ruin it for everyone will be shortly gone and soon forgotten.

First, @Mike121 resigned from a MODERATOR role here I believe well before the PORN attacks ever started. I am 100% confident he continues to wish the best for this Forum. I respect him immensely and consider him a friend.

Second, the impact of the PORN attacks shouldn't be underestimated. I could not agree more "Us members and future members who respect this forum need to stand by it"

I really do fear the "creeps posting nasty things and those creating drama" have taken a toll. However, I also believe that this Forum could be better than ever building around the solid members remaining. Much better than ever, in fact.

Let's see who and how many members want to restore the Photo of the Month.

I cannot see any downsides and I always enjoyed the photos. I say bring it back. I also think that many would-be gardeners find the forum a bit intimidating. Perhaps a Gardening 101 section could also be of help. Right this minute we have 446 guests and 4 members online. Why aren't those 446 a member instead of a guest? Why aren't they participating?

I hope it didn't sound like I was taking a dig at Mike that he isn't on here enough. If I had a point it was that most mods and members are not on here 24/7 even though the last mod seemed to claim to be.

I totally agree, seeing how many members want to restore the POTM. although my point was the more activity and fun the more members and watchers will see it thanks to the friendly neighborhood bots showing it around the net as they do. Members join forums to usually have a question or say and often leave after that. Enjoyment is what keeps them around.

Really not my business as I always say, but that is my opinion. If you want to plant an amazing garden do you wait to see what is already there to pop up or do you try to add new growth? Same as a forum, business, anything IMHO.

I wouldn't say "mostly" bots but a large percentage are bots. This is a slow day. Many times there are well over a thousand guests. We are mssing out on a lot of forum users no matter how many bots there are. It would be nice to know just how many are bots wouldn't it?

I know it sounds crazy but 99% are bots. The reason why you can right now google something like "photo of the month gardening forum" and it will show in the google search and take you to this exact thread.. as well as every other search engine.. and in every single corner of the web as vast as the universe itself.. its the bots not the owner(s) adding it to the layers of internet time and space lol
