Good morning from Upstate New York and thank you for offering this wonderful resource!

Does anyone out there have experience with perennial sweet peas in a small space?

My garden space is limited to a small, paved back yard, with a utilitarian collection of big bins and 5-gallon buckets.

One of my lovely sons recently gave me a metal arbor with attached netting and we’re experimenting with climbing veggies.

But I’d love a flowering perennial vine and am pondering sweet peas. I understand that all parts of the plant are toxic, though, so I’m wondering whether it makes sense to introduce them to a small space that is also home to a dog and a variety of birdlife?

Any thoughts would be appreciated as I think this through.

They are toxic, but many plants are, so if the dog is likely to eat them you need to take care what you grow. We have often grown them successfully in pots, but with heavy feed.
