I am looking for some ideas for a perennial non-invasive perennial ground cover.
This will be used in my perennial flower garden. I do not want anything that will destroy my existing perennials.
I have heard of one called Ajuga, just not sure of that one though.

I'm in zone 6

Another one I heard about is lamium. My garden is in full sun all day.

Thanks for all help

How about candytuft, Heuchera.

Just googled for you

Perennial favorites that thrive in this zone include: (zone 6)
  • Bee balm.
  • Coneflower.
  • Salvia.
  • Daisy.
  • Daylily.
  • Coral bells.
  • Hosta.
  • Hellebore.

There are a few varieties of woolly thyme that are gorgeous, low growing, perennial. If i lived in a more northern climate, i would have woolly thyme all over the place in the garden and would have a woolly thyme lawn too.
There is white clover (Trifolia repens) also to consider with deep taproots. This has the advantage of being in the Fabaceae (Pea) Family and acts as a nitrogen fixer, enriching your soil.

Ajuga is a great choice. I'm in a similar zone and had it in my front yard at my last house. Very sturdy, tolerated poor soil and shade, not invasive. Bishops weed would also work but it tends to spread out quickly.

Oh, thyme too! I forgot about that.

@alp , all great perennials, but I think the op is looking for ground cover specifically.

I find a variety of sedums to be the easiest, most colourful solution - without becoming invasive, they knit in tightly and assist mulching too.

Consider persicarias....the amplexicaulis varieties are well behaved, flower all summer long and provide nice foliage and flowers up to 60 - 90 cm. a taller form of ground cover.
