The brother of a friend of mine works in an auto repair shop. A truck full of plants rolled, everything sat in the heat for a couple days, then it got towed to the shop for repair. He brought these to me at work, in a big cardboard box. (YAY!! Free plants!!)

The pots and tags are missing; he told me they are all perennials.

Forgive me for being suspicious, but I think these are houseplants. :cautious:

I'm fairly sure this is a Pothos...?

Any ideas on the rest of these?

Wrinkly leaved plant:

Variegated... something:

This one... I feel I should know it, but it's nothing I've grown before.

Thanks!! :)

:notworthy: Thank you, @Owdboggy. :) I'll put the Hosta out by the other, next to the shed. :D

I"ll google for the "How to" of Impatiens!

I think it's going to be the same here then, @Larisa. :) My hardiness zone is 6b, too. If I want to keep it, it lives inside for the winter. (y)

The second one could also be a Hosta. We have one which has wrinkled leaves like that. Don't think it is a fern though.

@Owdboggy and @Larisa, (and anyone else reading...) would seeing the root system be of any help determining if it's a fern or hosta? I don't want to plant it 'til I know where.

Can tell you that Aspleniums have a very fibrous sort of root with rhizomes on the surface of the compost. Hostas have a more fleshy sort of root.

First and third pics look like Hosta's to me. Owdboggy is right with the last one being Impatiens.

I have a feeling I've seen the second plant growing around areas of water, rivers/waterfalls. That would suggest a fern to me. @zigs might be able to help with this one.

Edit: Possibly of the Asplenium family as suggested in posts above.

@MaryMary
Do not dig roots. :) Just show the leaf close, its front and back. Then we can see the venation of the leaf. It will help. :)

@Larisa, I wouldn't have to dig up the roots, the plants came to me without pots! They went flying when the truck rolled.

If the sun comes out a little before I have to go to work, I'll get a picture of leaves and roots. It's so hazy and grey, I don't think it would show any details if I took it now.

I can't get too close, it's the camera on my phone and blurs very badly in close-ups. (n) :(

Here is the top of the leaves.

Here is the underside. I lifted four leaves up to show you.

Here is the root system. They've gotten rained on, and it's washed some of the dirt away. Mixed blessings, there...
