Exercise produces more muscle mass, muscle mass burns more calories. Eating more natural foods always the best. Drinking plenty of water. However, age and genetics does play some role. The acceptance of loosing that Victoria secrets body at age 60 is ok.

I'll be 58 in a couple of months and while I haven't gained an ounce in 40 years things are now pointing south and getting wrinkly. :D I looked good in a bikini at 50 but now, not so much! o_O And indeed that is OK.

It helps that I have a physical job...I'm up and moving every day (painting contractor.) My appetite has also declined over the years...if I still ate as much as I did in my 20s I'd be huge.

I think that eating a high fiber low sugar/minimal junk food diet, along with staying active, is the main thing if you want to stay thin and healthy. I have friends who are obese and with chronic serious health problems; 100 percent caused by poor diet and being overweight. They'd probably be in perfect health if they hadn't been fat for many years.

that does help @Beth_B to have a physical job. Mine is mostly sitting, reviewing records, or typing reports etc. when I had my GSD, at least they made me get out and walk a lot. Now they are in heaven, and no dogs to walk. I do have to join the gym this January to get body ready for Key West in May. My diet is not junk foods at all, so I know it is not that.

Ben gaining a lot weight in the last year :( I blame it on a medication a doctor prescribed me that is known for making it easier for people to gain weight (blood pressure medication), because I didn't change the way I was eating. Suddenly everything I ate made me gain weight. Fortunately I am no longer taking it :)

I'm reading Allen Carr's book (about weight loss) and it makes a lot sense! I've been brainwashed by the media and big food companies... I don't really enjoy most of those things I always believe were my favorite things... I sometimes eat without feeling hungry and out of boredom, don't enjoy it at all. I really recommend this book to anyone looking to lose weight or looking to truly enjoy their food.

This is true, and not everyone has a job that's as physical, either. I have friends who sit in a cubicle all day because of their job, and they have to leave the center with swollen ankles, feeling terrible, etc. A lot due to the fact that they can't get up and even walk around much during a ten hour shift.

Unfortunately, some medicines do that. I've never had it personally, but I know that my mother did, and she gained a ton of weight when she was on those pills. She has since dropped the weight, but it made her feel terrible for a good while.

And about the corporation and companies, that's also true. And healthy, nutritious things start to seem better once you've cut the bad crap out of your life, as well.

I could finally stop taking those pills 2 weeks ago, and let me tell you I am so glad I did! I had to do it slowly, because if i did it too fast I could suffer a heart attack. I had to do this on my own because my family doctor is a good for nothing and didn't want to help, she actually didn't believe me. So I had to do it myself, I once cut my doses too fast and actually woke up with a racing heart and chest was hurting, at that time I thought I could never stop taking them! But I did :) Slowly but surely!

Two weeks and I am already losing weight so easily. You know? When I was taking my 80 mg daily dose I tried to diet and exercise, but I couldn't lose weight! That traumatized a little, and deep down I still fear I might never be able to lose this extra weight :( So I understand how your mom must have felt...

Oh that's terrible! I've had a string of bad doctors before, ones that don't particularly believe you. And I guess with the amount of people that lie, it somewhat makes sense that they would be skeptical. But it's the guy of thing that leads to mistrust. If they can't trust you, why trust them with your life?

I'm so glad you're getting better. I'm sure you'll find the perfect way to take that weight back off! It'll take time and patience but I believe in you :]

Thank you :) I decided I'll log everything I eat in my diary (it has worked before), and only weigh myself in once a week (my weight fluctuates a lot during the week - I have noticed). It's been 2 weeks already and I feel great, when I wake up in the morning it doesn't feel like my heart is trying to leave my chest :O

as far as doctors go, or the medical field in general. You have to be your own advocate. I never trust a doctor. Been in the medical field since 18. I am very alert to my own needs, do research etc. Recently changed my PCP. as I am getting older, hope the next one is better, but not sure still. Had my old PCP for years, only used him to write for Antibiotics when needed. Any labs, (blood work) for base lines, I always look the numbers up prior to him reviewing them with me, so I have the clear picture. Recently however, was totally surprised by something, the simple Vitamin D. Did no know that there are two types, Vitamin D (man made) and Vitamin D (nature made). Well he goes and orders me Vit. D (man made) it blew out my kidneys, had the worst pain, thought my hips broke apart. So, word to the wise There is Vit D2 and Vit D3 , I only take now Vit D3 (nature made)

The last visit to my former PCP, he asks me a question: Anyone from your family have a recent new sickness or diagnosis. I answer back to him "nope they are all dead". He said "Oh, I am sorry". And that folks was one of the reasons I am leaving him. Wrong reply PCP person. Go back to school.

I would call that a success! It's amazing how much just getting back into being active and taking careful care of yourself can really make a difference in how well you feel. That's a great plan, I'd keep on it. So far it only sounds like it's going really well!

@Maelalove Thanks :) I'm doing what I can... I did my count last night and I gained 20 kilos on that med in just one year, before that I was in my ideal weight for years. So I know this was no coincidence, now I have to work on fixing this mess! I'll not stop until I do :) Keeping this food log is helping me a lot! If I love or don't lose weight I can see exactly why.

Well keep it up! That's a great mindset to have, don't give up! I'm sure you can get back to that ideal weight and be as healthy as possible. I might try the food log myself, it sounds like it's really helping and I'm looking to lose a little weight, haha!

It only words if you are very exact and very honest when you log your foods, for some reason I am not very honest when using apps like ''MyFitnessApps'', maybe because many of the foods I like are not even there and adding a recipe there is such a pain! With an actual food log it feels different to me, it's much easier =D I know that food logging apps works for some people very well, but not for me at all. Now I can finally see where I am failing ;)
