Hi all,

Just joined today. I've been dabbling with growing chillies mostly for the past 5 years.

This year I have branched out and currently (or about to start) growing Potatoes, Carrots, Tomatoes, Peas and Runner Beans so feel I will need plenty of advice and source of good information throughout the process.

Using a mix of plant bags, planters and buckets/pots, everything grown from seed apart from 3 tomato plants purchased recently.

I'm interested to learn better practices etc.

Hi Nick

Some people on this site are very experienced and definitely know their onions. It depends upon how much growing space you have as to what you can grow. However, small is sometimes beautiful! I've just been forking over a patch on the veg plot to make trenches to plant potatoes. These are well chitted so I will plant these over the next week or so.

Good Luck and have fun!

Welcome @nick68 🤠

From your list, carrots can be a bit difficult to start. They are a small seed and should not be planted deep...just barely covered only enough to insure soil contact. Also, they require moisture so keep an eye on them until germination.

Good list and wishing you good growing.

I sowed 4 cells for Carrot, 2 have germinated in my heated propagator (seeds misted daily) but also intend to sow directly into buckets to allow multiple seeds and also negate the need to transplant seedlings. Early days and definitely a steep learning curve.

Have used 30 gallon canvas plant bags for my potatoes, first early 'Charlotte' and second early ' Kestrel' planted so far (2 bags of each. Have a main of 'King Edward' that will be planted in 2 more bags in a week or so.
