Food dryer, can't use it yet though as it draws too much power and trips the inverter

Can stick it in the sun though for the time being. The flies were getting in my home made one, as much as I like sun dried tomatoes, I don't like them with fly poo on them :(

Awww, I love sun dried tomatoes! They are so expensive at the store, but it's a shame that food dryer uses that much energy :( I once thought of making my own food dryer to use with the sun during the hot months (we don't really get a lot rains where I am living now). But I'm not handy with wood :( An electrical one sounds like a much better idea, I only hope not all of them are huge power suckers.

It's only because i'm using 12 volt DC solar power, which I have to step up to 230 AC, just a bit too much drain at once for the inverter.

I've got it out in the sun at the moment and its at 45 Celcius :)

I would love to have a food dryer gadget as I want to do some experiment with tomatoes and sweet potatoes :)

I love sun dried tomatoes too! It's so gosh darn humid here though, you'd have to dry them in the oven. One of these days I'm going to build a solar oven. This past July was so hot, I probably could have made a seven course dinner in no time.

The sun does do a marvelous job. I just dismantled my solar dehydrator because I wasn't using it much. Kept the little solar panels, etc to incorporate into something else...

Like your toy Zigs. I'm sure with your crops you will definitely get your money's worth out of it!

You can sun dry your tomatoes in your car, it does work, Slice your tomatoes and lay them on a cookie pan lined with a paper towel, park your car in the sun place cookie pan in your back window and let them dry. You will need to remember there in your car or they will start to smell after a few days.

Used the car to dry fish last year, not really enough dashboard space in it though.

Won't be many tomatoes this year, blight has really taken hold :(

Solar power for the winning! Looking forward to see the final results of your experiment :) I love sun dried tomatoes, they're perfect for soups and sauces! By the way, so sorry about your tomatoes :( They got hit so hard, it seems!

It was a good year for my tomatoes, I was giving them away because I couldn't keep up with them, next year I'll just do 2 plants and not 6.

What an interesting concept Fernsdaddy. Cars do get very hot in summer. About how long would it take to dry out a tray of tomatoes? Would it be done in one day? I'd like to try it. Thanks for the idea.:)(y)
