My neighbor gave me some baby supposedly hollyhocks last year which didn't do much in their 1st year however now the plants is coming to life here in Michigan And has several tiny blooms on its I'm not really not sure what it is Or if it's a standard weed mixed in because if you look closely at the pictures it seems like there's 2 leaf types in In the mix look closely maybe something strange is going on. I would appreciate any suggestions on planted in application for this period it's going to drive me crazy.

Not hollyhock. Definitely not. I think they are both weeds.

The one with red central vein could be butter dock. The one with little white flowers could be garlic mustard leaves, good for a green-veined white butterfly (Pieris napi). I am not 100% certain. But they could be these two weeds.

Garlic mustard is good for this beauty, Anthocharis cardamines

Glad that you posted them, @BradinMichigan ! I so wanted to grow garlic mustard for that green/white beauty. I saw a dead one in my garden clinging to a leaf and ever after that, I have been fascinated. Ordered some seeds for the garlic mustard and have no idea if they live or die. I'd love to have them in my garden, just to provide some food / breeding ground for this butterfly.

See how ignorant I am. Didn't even know what garlic mustard until this post of yours :banghead: and If I had seen them, I would have pulled them out as it cries WEED! LOL!
