Montana clematis

Hello
Hoping someone can tell me whats going on with my Clematis Montana variety.
This is my fifth try to grow one.
The leaves dry up and turn black. I have heard of clematis wilt but i read that the Montana variety is resistant to clematis wilt.
I’m in texas zone 8, DFW area. I have them in shade after 12 pm.

Surrounded by the brick and on a metal fence, I think they may be getting cooked. How hot does the area get before 12?

I think it gets to about 90.
