Lilac bush under stress?

Our 30ish year old lilac bush lost it's leaves a little early this year (late August/early September). Then it started sprouting leaves. Now there are some flowers. Is it under stress, and what will mitigate that? If it is relevant, a few years ago I finally cut back some rather large (2" diameter) stems.

When I got home yesterday I discovered that my Asian Pear is blooming again! It still has ripening fruit on it. Just one of those wonderfully quirky responses plants have to stress. We had 2 weeks of 100+, humid weather at the end of August which probably triggered the blooms. I don't expect any fruit from these flowers though.
