Wifey has nixed Roundup for fear of killing other plants.

Years ago our neighbor did not read the instructions and sprayed their entire yard with Roundup. Looked like a plague had sweep over their property.

I've had some success with surrounding the flowers with layers of newspapers and putting mulch on top of the newspapers. It takes time and you have to do quite a bit of weeding close to the flowers, but it helps. It also helps with keeping the plants moist and any future weeds are easier to pull.
I won't use Roundup or any similar products because of the terrible luck I have with overspray, despite all efforts to be careful to avoid plants.

Listen to Wifey and nix all chemicals. Roundup is banned in some countries for a reason! Just dig up the bed where necessary, get rid of the grass, and start over with a prevention program.

I found that Roundup works very well. I used it this past spring when the grass kept showing up in my flower bed. Before that I was pulling the weeds on my own. That was too much work.

Roundup BAD, good, old-fashioned elbow grease GOOD.

Why would you want to use something that ENTIRE countries have banned the use of? When you use poison you make the decision for everyone else as well. It's in the air, it's in the soil, and it's in the WATER. YOU have to DRINK the water.
