Kill crab grass, then place sod

Hi! Im working on trying to make my yard pretty but i want to get rid of the crab grass 1st. If i was to kill crab grass with poison and till the area, how long before i can fertilize and place sod over? Would that be a good idea?

It depends on what you use to kill the crabgrass. If your crabgrass is green and thriving right now, it isn't crabgrass. If you use glyphosate you can plant right away.

I would not till it just exposes more weed seeds
