I live just outside the Black Hills of South Dakota. I have a view of Rapid City. I was forced into retirement 15 months ago. Was doing OTR truck driving. In Hospital for 3 months, 6 surgeries, amputated my left foot. Don't worry. I have found out all about "The Ancients" always being right. Determined by Quantum Computers. I'm just starting to be active.
My lawn had nothing. Just grass. And it isn't in good shape. Broad leaf grass hauled in by hired lawn mowers. Getting my Kentucky Bluegrass going...hopefully. I just put 7 Ponderoas Pines in my yard (little ones). Three Burning Bush Bushes.
Right now I'm fooling around with a fern setup in a corner of my front porch. Two Boston Ferns (on sale). A Autumn Fern, and Votaniki Hosta Munchkin, I have coming for the corner. A flower of some kind that will take a little late afternoon sun. It will be sticking out from the shade then. Considering moving a fountain I have, up there also. It's a wide metal bucket with rocks. To try to help with humidity and the ferns. Will move all inside during winter.
I had a spot in my yard that cats used for a litter box for many years. I'm digging that out now. Slowly throwing dirt in trash in small trash bags. Will fill it in with sand, and old potting soil bags, and various (aged) manures. I have the manures from when I started a "Square Foot Garden" in the back yard over 11 years ago. OTR ruined that for me. But did get some of the best tasting spinach I've ever had. I have three Lavender plugs in pots on front porch now. Waiting to get the ground done. Have seeds for several things considering there or?
I want to keep things easy. Stupid comment with the Fern corner. But hoping to keep everything else easy, low maintenance. Been looking at plants. Besides easy/low/no maintenance, looking at plants to keep mosquitoes/flies away.
I follow Mike McGroarty and his backyard gardening site for profit. Was hoping to do that when I retired. I got way too much to do. Too much with rehabilitating. Too much with Sue Morter and Book; The Energy Codes (refer to above with Quantum computers and "The Ancients".) Smile. So I don't think I'll get into Mike's work. But find him very informative and interesting. Learn alot from him.
I have a couple questions. But will post them as threads.
