How to save a peperomia??

Hi everyone,
I just got this peperomia from a family member yesterday, I'm new to indoor plant care and I'm worried about the life of the plant.
When I got it there were a lot of dead dry brown leaves, and a few green have fallen of. It is really cut up, I don't know why.
Is it dying? If so, how do I save it?
