How big should marigolds get?

I’ve planted marigolds from seed all around my garden and the have all grown great—and some to great heights—but I only have 1 single flower (on one of my smallest plants) out of about 15 total plants. Some of these plants are pushing 2+ feet tall. Is this a ‘normal’ thing to happen with marigolds?

It's too late now DrMike but it's best to nip the tops out when they are young plants to make them bush out, you will then see more flowers.
