Hi all! This is my first post here :))

I’ve recently gotten into gardening, so this might be a newbie question . I apologize in advance!

I ordered a single boysenberry plant, thinking it would only be one small plant.
I actually received two, and it doesn’t seem to be a mistake on the sellers part!

Now, I’m just curious as to what sort of container I should use to plant these bad boys.

I don’t know if I should use a long container to plant both, together or if I plant each one separately in their own round containers.

I wanted to keep them in the same long planter for convenience sake, but I don’t want them to compete with each other for resources, or have to roots get all matted and tangled.

Would it be better to plant both of them separately, so the roots don’t become tangled or anything?

Thanks so much!!

They’re very young plants (about one year?).

If they do like blackberries do, then they will naturally spread out by tip layering or by suckers along the roots. That is what you want right? You want a patch of berries, not a single bush?

It looks like you are in zone 9b. I would plant those two plants about 5-6' apart in an area you want a berry patch to grow and let them spread to the point that suits you.

If they are different varieties of boysenberries, you may want to think about doing two separate berry patches because once they merge together, you may not know which berry is which, if that matters or not.
