New plant owner here. Ficus (I think) tree has dead patches. Maybe overwatered it? What now?

This is Wax Fig or Green Island Fig (Ficus microcarpa 'Green Island' or Ficus microcarpa var. crassifolia). Ficus microcarpa is widespread in Asia, Oceania, and Queensland, but this particular form seems to have originated in Taiwan.
There is a dead branch on your tree, but the rest of the tree looks healthy. Cut off the dead branch. At first leave some of the main base of the branch, in hope that it might resprout new growth. The rest of your tree looks healthy, let's try to keep it that way. Give it bright indirect light. Water regularly, but let the soil partly dry before the next irrigation. Make sure the soil and container drain well. Don't let the tree sit in a puddle in its saucer. fertilize occasionally with a complete, general purpose fertilizer.
