Group planting Canna

I have 5 Canna [bare roots] coming and would like to know if planted in a group how far apart should they be. Thanks

4 to 6 inches deep and 1 to 2 feet apart.

In my experience it doesn't matter, they spread quickly(in all directions) through their rhizomes; eventually they will be grouped very tightly. I collect my neighbors' yard waste and one neighbor threw out their uprooted canna plants, I threw them on the ground as mulch, but they actually started growing -- so now I have two different varieties of canna lily.
