Dogwood sapling help

Hi! This is my first post and I am completely new to gardening. I received this sapling at a wedding and have had some trouble ever since. It was not in the best condition when I received it, so I repotted it and watered it (too much). It started to develop what looked like powdery mildew, so I bought and was using Miracle Gro Nature's Care disease control. I just repotted it in a smaller container with new soil and stopped using the Miracle Gro spray. I am hoping it can be saved and would appreciate any help.

You have already done just about all that can be done. Only time will tell what will finally happen. Just don't water too often.
