Does this deodar cedar tree need pruning?

Hi friends,

We moved to this place a few years ago and haven't pruned this tree so far. Can you advise if this tree needs pruning and which would be a good season to do it? This is in the Bay Area, CA.

Hello @vkk. Although I am not equipped to say whether or not your tree should be pruned, I do know that the time to do it is in winter.

If this tree was mine, I would obtain advice from an arborist, I think you could do more damage than good otherwise.

Here in Texas we don't normally prune trees with the exception of fruit trees. We do remove deadwood and limbs that could possibly harm something. Otherwise, pruning a tree is not for the trees benefit, it is for the cosmetic value of the beholder and willy nilly pruning can damage a tree.
