They are pretty. Is there a special bed for them or do they self seed all over your garden?

Oh but they are so beautiful! Self-seeded flowers like these made my day :) I love how the petals have those amazing edges.

They seed like that all over the garden and apart from when they come up in the paths we leave them to get on with it. The fringed ones are often sold here as Ipswich Pinks, no idea why they have that name.
I find that they do deteriorate after a few years, but with new ones coming up all the time it does not matter.
I also find them very hard to keep looking good in pots for selling.

You mean the prettiest thing ever? That is what happens when you let them self seed? ;) Truly beaurtiful, I've always liked carnations, they remind me of my childhood.

Cheddar Pinks (Dianthus gratianopolitanus), in the Carnation Family (Caryophyllaceae), are beautiful, low-growing, garden perennials for sunny, well-drained spots, particularly rockery crevices and chalky beds.
There are a number of cultivars with different colored and patterned petals. The brilliantly hot pink D. gratianopolitanus 'Feuerhexe' (in English, 'Firewitch', see previous post) is among the most popular. The English common name, Cheddar PInk, refers to this wildflower's only English locale in the Cheddar Gorge of Somerset, but the Greek specific epithet refers to the French city of Grenoble, which is not surprising as various forms of this species can be found across Europe, from England to the Ukraine.
