Dahlias

Can anyone tell me why these dahlias are facing downward? None of the other ones I'm growing do this.

Can anyone tell me why these dahlias are facing downward? None of the other ones I'm growing do this.

I find my dinnerplate dahlias do this when i don't pinch them at 12--18". They don't seem to grow the deep "bush-like" center and thick stalks.
