A street level music group called Salt-N-Pepa wrote a song that was catchy and became popular. This thread made me think about the chorus lines so I changed one word, sex, into something more entertaining.

Spinderella Cut It up One Time
Oh, oooh, ooooh, oooh ah (Mmmmh hmmm)
Oh, oooh, ooooh, oooh ah (Ooops)
Oh, oooh, ooooh, oooh ah (Ah ha)
Oh, oooh, ooooh, oooh ah
Come on!
Let's talk about stumps, baby
Let's talk about you and me
Let's talk about all the good things
And the bad things that may be
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps for now
To the people at home or in the crowd
It keeps coming up anyhow
Don't be coy, avoid, or make void the topic
Cuz that ain't gonna stop it
Now we talk about stumps on the radio and video shows
Many will know anything goes
Let's tell it how it is, and how it could be
How it was, and of course, how it should be
Those who think it's dirty, have a choice
Pick up the needle, press pause, or turn the radio off
Will that stop us, Pep? I doubt it
All right then, come on, Spin
Let's talk about stumps, baby
Let's talk about you and me
Let's talk about all the good things
And the bad things that may be
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps (A little bit, a little bit)
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Hot to trot, make any man's eyes pop
She use what she got to get whatever she don't got
Fellas drool like fools, but then again they're only human
The chick was a hit because her body was boomin'
Gold, pearls, rubies, crazy diamonds
Nothin' she ever wore was ever common
Her dates heads of state, men of taste
Lawyers, doctors, no one was too great for her to get with
Or even mess with,
The Prez she says was next on her list
And believe me, you,
It's as good as true
There ain't a man alive that she couldn't get next to
She had it all in the bag so she should have been glad
But she was mad and sad and feelin' bad
Thinkin' about the things that she never had
No love, just stumps, followed next with a check and a note
That last night was dope (Ooh, ooh, ooh, take it easy now)
Let's talk about stumps, baby (sing it)
Let's talk about you and me (sing it, sing it)
Let's talk about all the good things
And the bad things that may be
Let's talk about stumps (come on)
Let's talk about stumps (do it)
Let's talk about stumps (uh-huh)
Let's talk about stumps
Ladies, all the ladies,
Louder now, help me out
Come on, all the ladies
Let's talk about stumps, all right
Ladies, all the ladies,
Louder now, help me out
Come on, all the ladies
Let's talk about stumps, all right
Yo, Pep, I don't think they're gonna play this on the radio
And why not? Everybody havin' stumps
I mean, everybody should be makin' love
Come on, how many guys you know make love?
Let's talk about stumps, baby
Let's talk about you and me
Let's talk about all the good things
And the bad things that may be
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps, baby
Let's talk about you and me
Let's talk about all the good things
And the bad things that may be
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps
Let's talk about stumps

HaHa! That was stupid but fun!

Salt lasts forever, vinegar for a week maybe.

Its been a week now since cpp posted the above and I treated a CM spot with vinegar for a test. The vinegar treated spot is completely brown one week later. My guess is it will be that way(brown) for several weeks, not one week as cpp states.

The salt spot previously treated in spring...can't hardly tell it was ever there. Both statements by cpp are false according to actual events.

I was talking about residuals in the soil, not about burning of grass. My guess is that in a couple months the brown patch from the vinegar will be gone. There will be no residual left in the soil. Can't say the same about NaCl.

First you said "a week maybe", now its "couple months" on the vinegar. I'll take a picture again in "couple months".

You said "salt lasts forever" but in my test the effects were completely gone in less than two months. You can not tell it was ever there.

Internet exaggeration is way too common these days.

A week maybe for the visible signs on the leaves of having been sprayed.
A couple of months (max) for detectable residue in the soil.
Due to your significantly higher rainfall the salt does get leached faster than here, but salt is still not a good herbicide. A soil test will tell you more about salt levels in the soil than visual inspection alone.

LOL, this backtracking is really funny to read, LOL. :)

Now, its salt may not be forever as you originally stated and vinegar may last two months instead of at most a week in this latest backtracking, LOL. We'll see in a couple months.

In my part of Texas diesel fuel is used a lot to clear scrub mesquite. The diesel by itself is rather harmful to the soil but ranchers here make a 50/50 mix of diesel fuel and molasses and apply it to cut stumps. The diesel kills the stump and the molasses enhances soil microbe numbers which literally eats the diesel. Research is being done but it now appears that diesel fuel also has some beneficial nutritional effects when mixed with molasses. I have seen pastures where this method was employed and it does leave a brown spot but I do not know how long it lasts. It really does kill mesquite quite effectively. I can't imagine CM's are tougher than mesquite.

Depends on the grind of the salt. Rock salt takes a while to go away. Fine or dissolved salts can wash with 6 or more inches of rain but then the damage will recover. No one believes the Roman soldiers pranced around their enemies fields with those little shakers or do they?

Interesting use of the diesel and molasses combo. Makes sense. I'll use that in the future when I have a stump problem. Salt by itself will not kill the CM stump but with diesel it is very effective.

On CM sprouts, I prefer to just mow them regularly in the lawn but in areas where I can't get to mow and where the residual doesn't matter, I'll use some cattle salt. I figure it costs about a quarter to treat a CM sprout with cattle salt and its gone within 6 weeks.

CM's are really tough, persistent...don't know if they are tougher than mesquite but I'd be willing to bet they are more persistent in the soil. Fortunately they don't seem to invade the fields like mesquite.
