Corn, not germinating

I figured out I was planting too early, the ground was not warm enough. Also, I learned that if your soil is not fertile enough and you plant too close together you won't get ears. So next year I will plant when it is nice and warm, to soil that has had compost worked in. There are no corn fields near me so when I get my organic corn seed I will be saving seed next year.

Corn is wind pollinated so sow your seeds no more than 1 foot apart and in blocks. Soil temp is important. Plant when soil temp is above 65F. When tassels first start to appear spray them with either Bt or Spinosad to stop the caterpillars. Spray again in 10 days and really get the tassels wet. When the little ears first come out of the stalk spray them just like you did the tassels to stop the corn ear worm.

I don't have a problem with getting them to germinate, I have a problem getting them to produce. Out 12 stalks I might get 2 viable corn cobs out of them. I pretty much ready to give up on the idea of growing any corn. I have tried different varieties, but maybe I just haven't found the right one yet.

What is your climate like? Are they getting enough heat when it is time for them to ripen? I know corn sometimes does not do well if it is too cold.

I spread corn out in front of my trail camera to attract wildlife. The weather here in North Carolina has been mild enough that I now have a field of 3" tall corn growing in the woods.
