Hi Guys, I’ve managed to keep my calthea alive for 3 years now so I’ve become pretty attached.
in the last month it’s been attached my little flies.
I’ve used the yellow sticky notes which have done a great job, watering rarely and only from the bottom, the flies seem to be much less in numbers now but even the new leaves are getting battered. Any tips on how I can save it? Also, the leaves that have taken a beating, should I remove them?

thanks so much.

Hello @HSK5417 and welcome. Those sciarid flies can be a nuisance! They will home in on your plants when the compost is too wet. It's not just the flies that cause the damage, it's the nasty little lava worms that chew away at the roots.
Those sticky pads are brilliant, we use them too. If your plant seems to be suffering still there is another solution to get rid of the lava.
You could take the plant out of the pot and thoroughly wash all the old compost (with worms) off the roots, and then carefully repot this in new compost mixed with horticultural grit to give more drainage. Scrunching up a little bit of fine netting (tulle) to put on top of the new compost will help to keep any new flies away :)
It won't hurt to remove damaged leaves.
