DrCase I cut down my ornamental grass and then burn down the stump of grass that is left. Last year was the first year I did this and it did seem to make it come back better. But why do you do it for your bermuda grass?

Burning it off removes all the thatch might burn a weed seed or two and its fun
wife hates it because of the dogs, time it with a rain
Once its all black i have a better chance to kill a mole, and the black absorbs the heat and its greens up faster
I can make a day of it on the farm with all the ditches

I never really tried this but I know my parents did this all the time when I was younger and they lived in the country. Unfortunately I live in the city limits so I would have to see if I am even able to do this legally. I really hope I am because from reading your posts it seems like it would do my yard very good to have it done.

Yeah I am going to burn all my ornamental grass stumps down on sunday. :D

Oh, my gosh, you have beautiful gardens!! I sure hope that this summer I can make mine look half as good as yours. At least with my new home I at least have a blank, clean canvas to work with and am slowly getting it up to what I would like it to be. Hopefully soon I can post some pictures up of what I have done so far.

I have no idea what the specific name of grass is in our backyard, but we burn it off, too. It was really weird grass around the pond and when bits of it die, the dead stuff seems to pile up. We also burned it off at one point in order to try to kill some of it and then lay out gravel over the top.

This was my grass this morning its two weeks ahead of the neighbors
Being black for a while lets it soak up the heat
