My bird of paradise seems unhappy. It needed to be repotted and I waited too long so the new growths died. This was in Sept and it’s since been repotted but some of the leaves are again turning brown and have spots on them and on the edges. Is this just the ramifications of having been repotted too late or is something else wrong?

Birds don make good houseplants because they need a lot of strong light in order to grow and flower well. They're really best in greenhouses solariums, or where you have a south facing floor to ceiling glass window or door to set them by.
It's just not getting enough sunlight.

Repot it in the same size pot but wash off some of the old soil just before putting it into new soil, then move it into as much light as possible, and, if you really love it a lot, buy it it's very own grow light.
😁😄😄😄

As it grows in it's nice new fresh leaves, just cut off the old ones one at a time until you have nothing but new leaves all over.

That looks like an old leaf that has reached the end of it's productive life and the plant is shedding it to make room for new ones. The new leaves come out of the center and the old ones are on the outside, so if the other leaf was one of the smaller outside leaves it wasn't needed anymore either. I don't see where you lost any new leaves. I wouldn't repot it again until it grows at least 4 more leaves. Annie's right, it needs LOTS more light. Something like full sun on a hot summer day with no clouds. Put it right smack dab in the middle of a south-facing window. No more than 2' on either side from the center.
