I've had about six asparagus plants for 3 years. A few weeks ago, I dutifully pruned all of the ferns down to ground level. Now several of the plants are pushing up new spears.

Now that it's the third year, should I go ahead and start harvesting them? I didn't expect anything to happen until closer to spring, but here we are.

Thanks

Sure, go ahead. Just watch how thick the stems are. When they start getting thinner, it’s time to let them grow for the summer. When you do, feed them with a high nitrogen fertilizer to push them for next year.
