The main stem was starting to crack off so I just snipped it off. No biggie. I can root the piece and get a new plant, but will plant continue to grow if the stem was cut from the top? Will it make a side shoot that will be the next main stem?

It did, but didn't continue from where it was cut off on the top. It started at the bottom where the cutting first arrived.

One question while we are on the topic of dragon fruits, how do they branch out when they reach the desired height? Do you snip it off at the top and expect side shoots to come out? I was honestly expecting the plant to start branching out because it was cut. Is that not how to encourage side shoots?
