mg guy, tell me about the hydrangea? Do they like sun or shade/wet or dry? A lot of people grow them around here and I think they are gorgeous.

Here in SW Ohio they take full sun-but will tolerate some shade as well.
My front is a full sun hydrangea combination-oakleaf, standard and dwarf.
Really long bloom time once they start.

Good grief the front of your house looks like it's out of a magazine! How much do you have to water them?

Wow, high praise indeed!
Really don't water them unless we have an extended hot and dry period-right now it's raining again so they will be happy!

Here's another, larger variety called 'limelight', outside the bedroom.
just getting set to bloom.

I should add that they all receive a good hardwood mulch, which helps with moisture retention.

Monarda fistulosa is beginning to bloom.

I grew Monarda didyma from seed. It was supposed to be red, but it's clearly not. I'll leave them in for now but they will be replaced when possible.

I went out the next day and bought a red one. It's the 'Jacob Cline' variety. I typically avoid hybrids and cultivars at all costs but with limited options, it was the best I could do.

Purple Prairie Clover. It's amazing that this plant exists in the wild, simply because rabbits refuse to let it exist in my garden. I have to keep it caged or they'll eat every last piece.

Swamp Milkweed and Orange Milkweed.

Arid conditions on top of my pill box, only an inch or so of windblown soil that has built up since the end of the war.
