What type of cucumbers do you like to plant?
Our family prefers Straight Eight.

I am with you--Straight Eights! I've planted them for years and they are reliable, not disease prone, and pretty prolific. They make good slicers fresh, and good pickles, too.

I prefer to plant actual pickling varieties. They can be used as a substitute for typical salad cucumbers but hold up better in preserving. Their smaller size makes them an excellent no prep snack.

I do about 40 quarts a year of crock and shelf pickles, that doesn't include what we use in salads or snacks.
