I'm in Texas... it was given to me by a woman who said it was new to the nursery she buys from.

Looks like Pier is to me too, of course that's part of the Latin name, mountain laurel could very well be the common name in various other parts of the world.

The leaves shown in the OP bear a resemblance to those found on some members of several genera of the Heath Family (Ericaceae),
particularly some Asian forms of Pieris. However, others such as Mountain-laurel (Kalmia latifolia) and some species in the large genus Rhododendron, might also be considered.
