I’m planning to expand my vegetable garden this year and I’m wondering which plants are best to grow alongside tomatoes. Any recommendations?
Yes to the Marigolds. That was my first thought as well.
You can also have sunflowers, squash, basil, parsley, oregano, chives, garlic --- garlic is good.

Any alliums, garlic, onion, leeks etc. are good, pests tend not to like the smell. I would be cautious of sunflowers, they produce stuff that inhibits the growth of other plants a bit.

I plant french marigolds to help repel nematodes and basil for compaions to tomato plants.
This is what I do. If you plant it might reseed and come up next year.

My whole garden smelled like Basil.

I have French Marigolds along the road which I'm hoping they will reseed.

Oh I also plant Garlic not hoping for a clove just a deterant.
