Succulents and Sam in the Sun

I've tried quite a few different plants in these pots on my table, all look good for a while but die off, dry off. I'm hoping these sucullents will be consistently happy. We have a hot summer and a wet cold winter.

He has the loudest purr but no meaiow but he is a very happy cat.
