Rosemary differences

I have two rosemary plants that look different. The one on the left seems to be thriving with new tendrils hanging off every day (pic). The one on the right doesn't seem to be doing as well.

Are these actually two different rosemarys? Or is the one on the right in distress?

I think you have been a bit too zealous with the pruning. Rosemary only needs a light trim now and then, but that seems to have been cut right back into the wood.
