Firstly, there is no need to root them in water, they'll readily "strike" in damp compost. In fact, it is better to do so, as water-grown roots are very weak.
Secondly, since they are clones of the first plant, they are the same age as the first plant.
People have been restricting these clones to one truss as far back as living memory, in order to get early tomatoes.

Yeah, a good post. I've done it a few times. If you have a really long growing season you can have tomatoes almost year round. (y)

Wow, I did not know that. When I need to thin out my wondering jew I just snip a piece and stick in the soil. I did not know you can do that with tomates also.

I think I'll give this method a try and plant a few cuttings in my parents' garden:D For me, there is no such thing as too many tomato plants!
