Regrow vegetables in water ????

Hello my Gardner friends!! I have reads u can regrow some veggies back into water.. I started a lettuce but I don't see any root yet. Anyone knows more info on this at when do I put it in soil?? Also I have read sweet potato, garlic, celery how can this be done? Any other veggies or fruit?

I wouldn't regrow supermarket vegetables; they deserve to die.

Lol.

Actually I did this two years ago just for fun. I set things like carrot tops and onions into shallow dishes of water in a sunny window (well to the extent we have sun in Michigan.)

I got lots of top leafy growth and it looked pretty. Didn't get much root growth though. I was able to "harvest" a little bit of celery, carrot and green onion greens.

Sweet potato which way is better half a potato in a water cup or whole?
