It is a Mexican Hydrangea, a.k.a. clerodendrum bungei , a.k.a. Rose Glorybower. But not a true hydrangea.

Take care where you plant it, they do tend to sucker all over the place if happy.

And they are only winter hardy to zone 7.

Not sure whether I'm in Zone 7, but I think it should be ok where I am. Saw this one where I am now and another one in Surrey, UK. Fingers crossed, and thank you!

The roots survive even if the tops are frosted off. Certainly grows like mad at Bodnant Gardens.

Yes, I had that impression. I saw the one in Surrey for several years, through the seasons, and it seemed to be pretty fit!
